With the introduction of 4.0.1, all of our HOT ticks are now affected by haste. This brings up the question, how much haste do I need? The answer may not seem so simple, but thanks to some great resources you can make logical decisions about how much you should have.
The best resource right now is probably the post on Type “H” for Heals. It has pretty extensive details (complete with graphs) of all of the HOT spells, and how haste affects them. Note that the numbers (from what I can tell) relate to being level 85 on the beta, so keep that in mind.
The most important thing you’ll be aiming for as a Druid is to get an extra tick added onto your HOTs (more particularly Rejuvenation). Having an extra tick on any HOT means the spell is more mana efficient, heals for more, and heals faster. However, there comes a point where if you start stacking too much Haste, you’ll be losing a lot of Intellect (which isn’t good either).
Currently on the 4.0 live realms, you need 1015 Haste Rating (plus the 5% raid buff from other classes) to get a seventh tick on your Rejuvenation spell. Having this amount of Haste will also get you awfully close to a one second GCD. Which means you can pass up the two points for [Swift Rejuvenation], and use them somewhere else. So getting to this number is the most logical choice for the current patch. Although if you go higher, your HOTs will still tick faster, it’s likely you’ll have to give up too many other stats (particularly Intellect) to go too much higher.
If you’re not having mana problems, I recommend reforging Spirit into Haste first. Otherwise, reforge Crit into Haste. If you still need more Haste after that, you can gem for it. It’s quite crucial to be at the new cap, especially if you’re healing in raids. So giving up Intellect is acceptable for now, just be sure you pay attention to socket bonuses so you can keep your Spellpower loss to a minimum.
An easy way to check how you are on haste (besides looking in your character pane), is to count the number of Rejuvenation ticks in your combat log. If there’s only six, you need more haste. If you have seven, then you’re good to go! This is the method I used to verify the haste amount.
